determining IQ scores and their implications
WHY
PEOPLE KEEP MISUNDERSTANDING THE ‘CONNECTION’ BETWEEN RACE AND IQ KEY AND
TEACHER’S NOTES
This
relatively simple text addresses a common prejudice: the relationship between
race and IQ so it should be interesting to see if any of the students share
this prejudice. The writer does go on to refute this view very successfully I
must say leaving no one anything to say. In this respect, it is a good example
of an argumentative text. There is a tidy little writing activity as well.
- He attributed Hispanic’s alleged intellectual inferiority at least partly to genetic factors
- Richwine’s position is intellectually as well as morally unsound
- We can draw inferences about the test taker’s relative mastery of various skills, performance in the classroom, income, health and other important life outcomes
- Innate mental ability exists
