WRITING ACTIVITY: A PARAGRAPH DISCUSSING THE DIRECTION EVOLUTION WILL TAKE IN THE FUTURE

Related reading activity: “Mountain Populations Offer Clues to Human Evolution” level ** reading tasks

Considering that all creatures on earth have been changing in order to be able to adapt to be able to adapt to their environments and survive, it is reasonable to suppose this trend will continue. Our Neanderthal ancestors had smaller brains but modern humans have larger ones. Given the rate of technological developments in the modern world, it is logical to assume that our great grandchildren may have even larger brains. Our Neanderthal ancestors also had greater muscle mass; especially pectoral muscles, which has decreased over time parallel to lack of demand. Assuming that the speed of automation will continue with, perhaps robots entering our lives, our muscle mass may become even less in the future. With all the punching of key boards of various sizes that goes on, it is also safe to assume we will have greater manual dexterity in the future with a three digit thumb perhaps. In conclusion, mankind is an evolutionary success story and there is no reason to suppose that we won’t adapt to more extreme weather and harsher climates just like modern humans that live at high altitudes have done.
